33/365 – June 14: Flag Day

14 Jun

If anyone, then, asks me the meaning of our flag, I say to him – it means just what Concord and Lexington meant; what Bunker Hill meant; which was, in short, the rising up of a valiant young people against an old tyranny to establish the most momentous doctrine that the world had ever known – the right of men to their own selves and to their liberties. ~Henry Ward Beecher
I am first and foremost a citizen in the kingdom of God, a kingdom which transcends politics, geography, and culture. Never-the-less, I consider myself blessed to live under the the Stars and Stripes and in the nation to whom I pledge allegiance, a nation not perfect by any means but a nation where I am free to worship, free to speak, free to publish, free to assemble, free to petition my government, and free to bear arms.
