77/365 sleeping in the way-past

28 Jul

A long time ago-the late 1800’s and early 1900’s-the Carson and Colorado Railway Company, a narrow gauge railroad, operated between Mound House (near Carson City), Nevada, and Keeler (near Lone Pine), CA. Southern Pacific still ran a narrow gauge rail between Laws (Bishop), CA, and Keeler, CA, through the 1950’s. Pieces of the history of those days and that rail-line are preserved today at the Laws Railroad Museum and Historical Site five miles west of Bishop off US Hwy 6. The museum has only a few of the original Laws buildings, some railroad equipments and stock, and a host of buildings either moved to the location from the surrounds or pieced together from buildings in the area. The museum has amassed a considerable collection of life from those by-gone days, from medical to industrial to educational to photographic to the press to household, that it houses in its various buildings. This metal bed frame is found in a shack said to be an old miner’s cabin.
